GoodTerms vs Jointly

Both services help Canadian couples prepare a prenup, postnup or cohabitation agreement. The main differences are what you pay, how you work through the draft and how much room you have to make changes.

GoodTerms and Jointly pricing

Lawyer fees are separate for both services.

GoodTerms: $49 CAD, one-time payment

Three agreement generations

Jointly: $429 CAD, plus applicable taxes

Six months of builder access

Which one should you choose?

If you mainly want a low-cost, editable draft, GoodTerms is the more economical starting point. Jointly pairs its builder with family-law education and six months of access, which may suit you if you want to spend more time learning before completing the agreement.

GoodTerms: a smaller upfront cost and three generations to create or refine a draft.

Jointly: a guided builder with learning resources and a six-month access period.

Complex assets or unresolved disagreements: involve a lawyer before choosing a drafting service.

How to keep the total cost down

The drafting fee is only one part of the budget. An organized draft and a clear scope of work make it easier to get a useful legal quote.

Agree on the basics

Agree on the main decisions first: the home, debts, business interests, future savings and support.

Gather your records

Gather your financial records before drafting, including account balances, mortgages and business documents.

Group your changes

Plan your changes before generating another version or letting a builder access period expire.

Get a clear legal quote

Send the editable draft to your prospective lawyers. Ask whether their quote includes revisions, negotiation and signing, or only advice.

Questions people ask before choosing

Is Jointly a legitimate service?

Jointly identifies British Columbia lawyers Aimee Schalles and Amanda Baron as its founders. It is also listed as a participant in the Law Society of Ontario's Access to Innovation program. These are useful background checks when evaluating the company; your choice should also account for province coverage, features and total cost.

Can either service handle a jointly owned business?

Jointly's suitability questionnaire excludes a business that the partners jointly own and operate. GoodTerms accepts business details and custom terms, but software alone does not resolve valuation, ownership or shareholder issues. Speak to a lawyer early if the business is a major part of your agreement.

Does either price include a lawyer?

No. Budget separately for each partner's independent advice and any lawyer revisions. A referral or a certificate template is not a paid review appointment. Quebec marriage contracts need a notary; the online draft is preparation for that process.

Sources and comparison method

GoodTerms publishes this comparison and sells a competing service. Public sources were checked September 4, 2026. We did not create or pay for a Jointly account; this comparison covers published features and prices, not hands-on testing or the legal quality of completed agreements.
